She was 25 years old at the time and was in the very early stages of her career. She is wearing a black lace and velvet swimsuit by Catalina. She was a model for Catalina Sportswear for publicity and advertising purposes. During 1951 Marilyn enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles studying literature and art appreciation,  and appeared in several minor films playing opposite such long-established performers as Mickey Rooney, Constance Bennett, June Allyson, Dick Powell and Claudette Colbert. In March 1951, she appeared as a presenter at the 23rd Academy Awards ceremony. Catalina Black Velvet & Lace Swimsuit Glamoursurf recently acquired this same suit by Catalina. The black lace swimsuit is lined with a nude fabric giving the "illusion lace' look. There is a small inset between the bust of the same nude fabric. The bust line has a notched black velvet panel with matching black velvet shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are detachable and adjustable.
